At a brief ceremony at noon Monday, Nov. 7, President Christopher L. Eisgruber delivered on a promise to undergraduate students to "Fly the W" if the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.

A flag with a blue "W" emblazoned on a white field, similar to those that fly at Wrigley Field after the Cubs win, was hoisted up the flag pole over the entrance to Nassau Hall. The W flag flew below the American flag for a few minutes to celebrate the Cubs' first world championship since 1908, which they achieved by defeating the Cleveland Indians in a seven-game series that ended last week.

A few dozen students, faculty, staff and visitors gathered in front of the main entrance to Nassau Hall. Eisgruber and fellow lifelong Cubs fan Stanley Katz, a lecturer with the rank of professor in public and international affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School, led the group in a rendition of the team's victory song, "Go, Cubs, Go!"
