Outdoor Action Sustainability Initiative

Training on trail may bring greener outlooks to campus .

For the past 34 years, Outdoor Action trips have provided a fun-filled introduction to life at Princeton. In 1999, a more focused orientation program was introduced, training the student leaders to serve as better role models and to answer questions more effectively on topics including social life, alcohol, diversity, tolerance, respect for others and making responsible choices. This year, another topic was added to the list: sustainability.

The start of college is an exciting time full of new experiences and opportunities for freshmen. Before classes began Sept. 11, the members of the Class of 2017 were welcomed to the Princeton University community in a number of ways. This video shows some of the events and activities offered to freshmen.

Adventure and service greet new students and faculty .

Princeton organizes numerous orientation events that help freshmen become familiar with one another, the University and the community they'll live in for the next four years. From Sept. 2 until the first day of classes on Sept. 16, incoming students move in to campus, rough it with Outdoor Action, work on social issues in off-campus locations with Community Action, meet with faculty including President Christopher L. Eisgruber, and enjoy parties, cookouts and games on campus.

Freshmen tackle challenges and new adventures .

Nearly 800 members of Princeton's newest undergraduate class are preparing for the start of their freshman year by confronting physical challenges and forging bonds with their classmates through the Outdoor Action pre-orientation program.
